So many fruit yogurts today are packed with refined sugars and other ingredients we can barely pronounce. Check this yogurt label out:
ALWAYS READ THE LABEL:
-The second ingredient in this fat-free Yoplait strawberry yogurt is SUGAR! The sugar came before the strawberries…..
-In addition to the sugar, they have added High-Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)!
-Also, there is added artificial coloring
What is HFCS?
-It is a very cheap sweetener for food manufacturers to use
-Highly processed: manufactured starch from corn to taste extremely sweet
-Causes a quick rise in your blood sugars (blood glucose) followed by a fast drop leading to hunger
-Try to avoid HFCS
SO… what can you do to avoid added refined sugars?
Make your own fruit yogurt!
Buy plain/nature yogurt (I prefer Greek yogurt) and add frozen berries/fruit to it and store in the fridge overnight. The fruit will thaw and the natural fruit juices will flavour your yogurt.
Here’s my own yogurt this morning at work…mmmmm.
3/4 cup Plain 0% greek yogurt
1/4 cup frozen berries
Stored overnight in the fridge, stir it up in the morning, add granola, and enjoy! 🙂
I agree!!! I’m posting soon about making yogurt from scratch – like from milk. It’s really easy and you know just what’s in it 🙂
